Materials Available


The Historical Society houses and provides easy access to the public records typically found in the county courthouse. The public records collection includes:

  • Maps

  • Marriage Records

  • Naturalization documentation

  • Probate

  • Real Estate transaction records

  • School Yearbooks

  • Tax Records

  • Circuit Court

  • Inquests

  • WWI military

  • Birth records (1883 to 1893 only)

  • Death records (1883 to 1893 only)

  • A variety of county court/commission records, all dating from the formation of the county in 1821 and some even prior to that date. The earliest public record found to date is an 1812 probate record.

Much more than the county’s public records await the eager researcher. Available for research are these additional public records or sources:

  • County newspapers (early German, as well as English) on microfilm, many of which have been indexed by surname

  • Federal census records on microfilm, some with indices

  • One-room school records

  • Cemetery records

  • Architectural survey of the City of Hermann
